Shimano engineers worked to refine each component and every function to provide the best on-bike experience, whether you’re sprinting to the finish on the Champs-Élysées or crushing your local climb.
The Science of Speed
Speed was the mainspring in the development of this 12-speed road bike series of a new generation. Several years of research produced those innovations that make the Shimano Dura Ace R9200 even faster. Every component has been revised, refined and optimised to enable the decisive seconds of advantage – whether as a breakaway from the peloton or in the finish sprint on the Champs-Élysées.
Including Shimano’s finest components, the Dura-Ace R9270 Groupset perfectly suits the flashiest bike builds and the most discerning road riders. The electronic Di2 gears utilise a semi-wired configuration that sees the wireless STI levers send rapid gear change signals via a deft touch of a button to the derailleurs. The rear derailleur, front derailleur and internal battery are hard-wired, communicating with each other to ensure fast and accurate gear changes. This semi-wired format ensures excellent derailleur run times between charges and provides a stronger gearshift action for snappier gear changes. The gear system can be hooked up to the new E-TUBE smartphone app so that the rider can completely customise the gear change behaviour in line with personal preferences and the terrain.
The electronic Di2 parts rely on Wireless technology where it matters to make shifting even faster and more reliable. Smooth shifting is also the aim of the Hyperglide+ system, already known from the MTB segment, which is designed to bring out maximum performance and the full potential of every racer.
The 12-speed cassette closes the jumps between sprockets to enable a more consistent cadence and increases the gear range for when tackling challenging climbs. The sprockets of the cassette are shaped via Shimano’s Hyperglide+ format that, in partnership with the more positive derailleur action, grants silky smooth actuation. Complementing the cassette, the Hollowglide II aluminium chainset is extra-light but exceedingly stiff to guarantee efficient power transfer from the rider to the drivetrain.
Refined lever hood ergonomics afford more handholds, especially when adopting an aggressive, aerodynamic riding position, and the carbon brake lever with Servo Wave technology markedly heightens control of the hydraulic disc brakes. These levers are linked to one-piece calipers with 10% extra pad-to-rotor clearance to quieten operation in bad weather or after lengthy descents.
